Uniswap price history

Past prices tell you what already happened. They are not a forecast, and crypto has no obligation to repeat itself.

What is Uniswap, simply?

Uniswap is a way to swap one cryptocurrency for another without a company sitting in the middle holding your money. On a normal exchange you deposit funds, the company matches you with a buyer or seller, and it holds everything until you withdraw. Uniswap replaces that with software running on Ethereum: you connect a wallet, swap directly from it, and the coins never leave your control.

Instead of matching buyers to sellers, it uses pools of coins that other people have deposited. When you swap, you are trading against a pool, and the price is set by a formula based on how much of each coin the pool holds. The people who supplied the pool earn a cut of the fees.

UNI, the token, is not the exchange itself. It is a governance token — it lets holders vote on proposals about how the protocol runs. Owning UNI does not give you a share of the fees, which is a common and expensive misunderstanding.

A simple way to picture it

A vending machine rather than a market stall. There is no trader to haggle with — the machine holds a stock of each item and its price adjusts automatically depending on how much is left inside.

Should UNI be your first crypto?

Probably not. Using Uniswap requires a self-custody wallet, an understanding of transaction fees, and the ability to tell a real token from a fake one — anyone can create a token and list it, and scam tokens with copied names are common. Those are skills worth having, but they are not first-week skills.

If you do buy UNI, store it safely

Crypto left on an exchange is held by that exchange, not by you. For anything you would mind losing, move it to a wallet whose keys you control, and write the recovery phrase on paper — never in a photo, a notes app or an email. No exchange, wallet, support agent or website, including this one, will ever need your seed phrase. Anyone who asks for it is stealing from you.

Uniswap questions beginners ask

Does holding UNI earn me trading fees?

No. Fees go to the people who deposit coins into the pools, not to UNI holders. UNI is a governance token that lets you vote on protocol proposals.

Is it safer than a normal exchange?

Different, not simply safer. Your coins stay in your own wallet, so an exchange collapse cannot take them. But there is no support line, no password reset, and no way to reverse a mistake — if you approve a bad transaction, that is final.

Why did my swap cost more than I expected?

Two reasons usually. Ethereum network fees are charged on top and move with demand, and large swaps in a small pool move the price against you as they execute — that gap is called slippage.
