What is BNB, simply?
BNB is the cryptocurrency native to the ecosystem built around Binance, one of the world's largest crypto exchanges. It started as a token offering fee discounts on the Binance exchange and has since expanded into powering its own blockchain network (BNB Chain), used for running applications and other tokens, similar in concept to Ethereum.
A simple way to picture it
BNB began a bit like a supermarket's own loyalty token — useful mainly for discounts within one company's ecosystem — and grew into fueling an entire separate blockchain network of its own.
Should BNB be your first crypto?
BNB's value and utility are closely tied to the Binance ecosystem's ongoing success and regulatory standing, which adds a layer of concentrated, company-linked risk that more decentralised coins don't carry in the same way.

Crypto left on an exchange is held by that exchange, not by you. For anything you would mind losing, move it to a wallet whose keys you control, and write the recovery phrase on paper — never in a photo, a notes app or an email. No exchange, wallet, support agent or website, including this one, will ever need your seed phrase. Anyone who asks for it is stealing from you.
