NEAR Protocol price history

Past prices tell you what already happened. They are not a forecast, and crypto has no obligation to repeat itself.

What is NEAR Protocol, simply?

NEAR is a blockchain built around the idea that crypto is too difficult for ordinary people to use, and that this is a design problem rather than an education problem.

Most of its differences are about usability. Account names are readable words rather than long strings of characters, so you can send to alice.near instead of a 42-character address — which removes one of the most common ways people lose funds. Applications can cover transaction fees on a user's behalf, so someone can start using an app without first buying a token to pay for it.

Underneath, it splits its workload across multiple parallel sections so it can process more transactions at once rather than queueing everything through a single lane. NEAR, the token, pays for transactions and secures the network.

A simple way to picture it

Readable web addresses instead of raw IP numbers. The machine underneath still uses numbers — the change is that humans are no longer expected to.

Should NEAR be your first crypto?

No. The usability work is real and worth knowing about, but a token's value depends on whether developers and users actually turn up, which is a difficult judgement. Better usability does not make the price less volatile.

If you do buy NEAR, store it safely

Crypto left on an exchange is held by that exchange, not by you. For anything you would mind losing, move it to a wallet whose keys you control, and write the recovery phrase on paper — never in a photo, a notes app or an email. No exchange, wallet, support agent or website, including this one, will ever need your seed phrase. Anyone who asks for it is stealing from you.

NEAR Protocol questions beginners ask

What is a named account?

A human-readable address like alice.near rather than a long string of characters. It is far harder to mistype, which matters because a crypto transaction sent to the wrong address is normally unrecoverable.

How can an app pay my fees?

NEAR lets a developer sponsor transaction costs so a new user does not need to hold the token before doing anything. Useful for onboarding — it does not make the transaction free, only paid by someone else.

What does splitting the workload achieve?

Processing transactions in parallel sections rather than one queue raises how many the network handles at once. It adds complexity, and throughput claims are best judged by real usage rather than theoretical maximums.
