Tezos price history

Past prices tell you what already happened. They are not a forecast, and crypto has no obligation to repeat itself.

What is Tezos, simply?

Tezos is a blockchain built to upgrade itself without splitting in two.

Most blockchains have a hard problem when they need to change: everyone running the software has to agree to adopt the new version. When they cannot agree, the network splits, which is exactly what produced Bitcoin Cash. Tezos builds the upgrade process into the protocol itself — proposals are submitted, token holders vote, and approved changes are applied automatically across the network.

The aim is evolution without schism. In practice it has upgraded itself many times without a contentious split, which is a genuine achievement, though on-chain governance brings its own question of whether voting power concentrates among large holders.

A simple way to picture it

A constitution with a written amendment procedure, rather than one that can only be changed by revolution.

Should XTZ be your first crypto?

No. Self-amendment is an interesting property but not a reason for a first purchase, and evaluating whether its governance actually works well requires following it closely over years.

If you do buy XTZ, store it safely

Crypto left on an exchange is held by that exchange, not by you. For anything you would mind losing, move it to a wallet whose keys you control, and write the recovery phrase on paper — never in a photo, a notes app or an email. No exchange, wallet, support agent or website, including this one, will ever need your seed phrase. Anyone who asks for it is stealing from you.

Tezos questions beginners ask

What does self-amending mean?

That protocol upgrades are proposed, voted on by token holders and applied automatically, instead of requiring everyone to manually adopt new software and risking a split when they disagree.

Who votes on changes?

Token holders, either directly or by delegating to someone. This raises the standard governance concern that influence tracks holdings, so large holders carry more weight.

What is baking?

Tezos's name for staking — locking XTZ to help validate blocks in exchange for rewards. Same trade-offs as staking elsewhere: lock-up periods and penalties for validator misbehaviour.
