What is a Meme Coin?

The short answer

A cryptocurrency whose value is driven largely by community attention and internet culture rather than a specific technical purpose.

Dogecoin and Shiba Inu are well-known examples. Not automatically a scam — see our “Is Dogecoin a Scam?” explainer — but typically far more speculative and sentiment-driven than established coins.
