What is a Whale?

The short answer

Slang for an individual or entity holding a very large amount of a given cryptocurrency.

Large “whale” transactions sometimes move prices noticeably, since they represent a significant chunk of trading volume — which is why whale activity gets tracked and reported on in crypto news.
