What is Litecoin, simply?
Litecoin, launched in 2011, was one of the earliest cryptocurrencies created directly from Bitcoin's own code, with adjustments aimed at faster transaction confirmation times. It's often described as a lighter, quicker sibling to Bitcoin rather than a fundamentally different design.
A simple way to picture it
If Bitcoin is described as digital gold, Litecoin has often been described — including by its own creator — as digital silver: a related, generally faster and cheaper, but less dominant alternative.
Should LTC be your first crypto?
Litecoin's long history (one of the oldest cryptocurrencies still actively used) is a point in its favour for track record, though it has not seen the same level of adoption or attention as Bitcoin or Ethereum in recent years.

Crypto left on an exchange is held by that exchange, not by you. For anything you would mind losing, move it to a wallet whose keys you control, and write the recovery phrase on paper — never in a photo, a notes app or an email. No exchange, wallet, support agent or website, including this one, will ever need your seed phrase. Anyone who asks for it is stealing from you.
