Dogecoin price history

Past prices tell you what already happened. They are not a forecast, and crypto has no obligation to repeat itself.

What is Dogecoin, simply?

Dogecoin is one of the earliest and most well-known "meme coins" — created in 2013, originally as a lighthearted parody of the crypto boom at the time, based on the "Doge" internet meme. Despite its joking origins, it has persisted for over a decade with a large, active community and remains one of the most widely held cryptocurrencies.

A simple way to picture it

Dogecoin is closer to a long-running cultural phenomenon that happens to also be a real, tradeable cryptocurrency than a project built to solve a specific technical problem — its value has historically been driven heavily by community sentiment and social media attention.

Should DOGE be your first crypto?

We cover this question honestly and in detail in our dedicated explainer, Is Dogecoin a Scam? — short answer: it is not fraudulent, but it carries real, distinct risks, including an unlimited coin supply and price behaviour closely tied to social media trends.

If you do buy DOGE, store it safely

Crypto left on an exchange is held by that exchange, not by you. For anything you would mind losing, move it to a wallet whose keys you control, and write the recovery phrase on paper — never in a photo, a notes app or an email. No exchange, wallet, support agent or website, including this one, will ever need your seed phrase. Anyone who asks for it is stealing from you.
